Seriously. Screw it.
Is it bad? Who cares!
Has it been done already? Probably, but who cares! Give it your own spin!
Scared that someone won't like it? Who cares! Draw it anyway!
Scared your proportions are off? Background looks like a last minute slap on job? Absolutely nothing seems to be working? Who cares! Making something that might be crappy is better than making nothing at all!
You gotta reach the point where you don't care about it being perfect anymore -because it'll never be perfect- and accepting that it'll be art because you made it. You made something! You brought it into the world like a slightly less glamourous baby!
You'll be drawing. That's the hardest part. Not the editing (as much as that love-hate relationship persists) but the actual act making that first line is scary. Staring at a blank canvas for hours/days/weeks/months is scary. And freeing! And awful! And amazing! It's all of the emotions in varying degrees because that's what art is. It's emotion.
So, go out there and make your art! Enjoy it! Know that whatever you do, you're the only one that could do it; however horrible or marvellous you believe it to be.
Just you. No one else.
So that's my prep talk. I'll see you in next years' journal entry!
How long have you been on DeviantArt?: (goes to check) Holy crapples, has it really been 9 years?! How did I get so old??
What does your username mean?: Erulastiel is simply my Elvish name. A very old and dear friend lyrienn actually made my account for me so that we could enjoy DA together and post fanart to series we both loved! Sadly she retired from DA many ages past ):
Describe yourself in three words: Dreamer, procrastinator and drink enthusiast
Are you left or right handed?: I am a common Right Handed human, though I did pick up some printing lessons when I broke said arm in the first grade.
What was your first deviation?: Oh god why are you bringing this back ahhhhhhhh though I was supremely proud of it at the time...
What is your favourite type of art to create?: Oof, that's a split between digital art, which I feel most confident in provided an undo option, and basic acrylic paintings.
If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?: Watercolour painting. In a heartbeat.
What was your first favourite?: (2260 pages later) OHMYGODIREMEMBERTHESE!!! Who remembers these?!
What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?: Mostly fanart, amazing digital painting and stuff drawn by my hubby FermonsNosYeux
Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?: Obviously my lovely baka usagi FermonsNosYeux I don't like to play favourites, but I do adore the works of euclase and yuumei
If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?: I would love to meet yuumei in person and tell her how much her art has inspired and impacted me! Also humon because she sounds like the kind of person I'd want to high five and Nanihoo for being a Canadian artist I strive to be.
How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?: Not directly at least! I had a lot of elementary and high school friends on this site, but now I'm the only one still "active", aside from the one I managed to recruit.
What are your preferred tools to create art?: My Wacom Bamboo tablet, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, pencils, and pens as of late.
What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?: On my own in a nice stress free environment, with a nice cup of tea of hot chocolate and a very good music soundtrack.
What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?: I can barely remember the first few years of DeviantArt, but I do remember how active I was, how friendly people were, and how confident I felt after submitting my first digital drawing. Those were good times, before DA became something of a competitive art platform...
